The Mário Ruivo Award aims to raise awareness among younger generations about the Ocean’s multiple dimensions and societal role, honoring Professor Mário Ruivo’s legacy. This year’s theme “Ocean: a heritage that unites generations” highlights the profound connection between the Ocean and the preservation of human rights. Covering over 70% of Earth’s surface, the Ocean sustains livelihoods, feeds populations, regulates climate, and houses ancestral cultures. Young filmmakers (ages 14-21) are invited to submit films up to 7 minutes long. The four competition categories are: Message, Creativity, Scientific Culture, and Future.
Further details about this opportunity can be found here. Deadline to apply is 30 September 2025.
