On Thursday 18 September 2025, EMB will host its 52nd Third Thursday Science Webinar featuring Ruwanthi Gajadeera who will present her EMBracing the Ocean artist-in-residence project “SOS Save our Seas”.
Ruwanthi Gajadeera is an award-winning Sri Lankan textile and fashion designer, and a force for creative change in the fashion and textile world with unwavering commitment to sustainability with designs acting as a call to action. She was an EMBracing the Ocean artist-in-residence from 2024 – 2025.
Ruwanthi’s project explored the devastating legacy of the X-Press Pearl disaster on Sri Lankan marine life, turning marine data into a multi-sensory exhibition which included textures, subtle scents, sound and heritage craft, and sustainable fashion.
