Overview
NNOCCI ‘Framing the Conversation’ Course Live Webinars on Wednesdays from 1-2 pm ET/10-11 am PT; 7-week course runs from Oct 7th – Nov 18th
The National Network for Ocean and Climate Change Interpretation (NNOCCI) is offering the “Framing the Conversation: A Crash Course in Effective Climate Change Communication” this Fall 2026. The Course is a 7-week, 25-hour, fee-based online course for those interested in gaining strategic framing skills for having more impactful and effective climate change communications.
NNOCCI is a partnership among climate scientists, informal science educators, and climate communicators with public trust and large audiences. Dedicated to fostering productive conversations about climate action, we operate as a supportive community of practice. We use and teach evidence-based, empirically tested tools to inspire hope and action. Together, we can shift climate change communications to be more positive, productive, civic-minded, and action-focused.
In the course “Framing the Conversation: A Crash Course in Effective Climate Change Communication”, or ‘Crash Course’ for short, participants will learn basic framing elements including why framing matters, which values reach the largest audiences, how researched metaphors help make climate science ‘sticky’, and how to promote solutions to act on climate change. Participants will create a final project to demonstrate their framing skills and practice critiquing communications with our framing skill rubric. Upon successfully completing this course, participants will be welcomed into a larger community of practice, composed of nearly 1000 strategic climate framers supporting each other’s work.
This course is for those who have an interest in learning more about strategic framing to promote productive climate communications. For more information, read our Frequently Asked Questions. Want to know more about NNOCCI? Learn more with this 90-second video.
