84 Tonnes of Waste Removed from Pacific Ocean Garbage Patch

Researchers from the University of Hawaiʻi have removed 84 tonnes of derelict fishing gear from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, tackling one of the ocean’s most harmful forms of plastic pollution. These abandoned nets and lines, known as “ghost gear,” pose a major threat to marine life, entangling and killing countless animals. The effort marks a significant step toward healthier ocean ecosystems.
