Thailand’s Dugongs in Peril

In Thailand, vulnerable dugong populations are declining as pollution, boat traffic and coastal development degrade the seagrass meadows they rely on for food. Once abundant, these gentle “sea cows” are now struggling to survive as their habitats shrink and fragment. Scientists warn that without urgent efforts to restore seagrass and reduce pollution, local populations could face collapse.
