Webinar Series: How to organize and share my imaging data? – 14 May – 02 July 2025, Online

Marine biologists and environmental scientists now have access to a plethora of powerful methods that help them to determine the distribution and abundance of organisms in the natural environment. Yet, a major challenge persists which is managing and sharing data from large-scale projects in a standardised format and ensuring it meets FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles. This webinar series highlights insights from our experts and their work toward establishing a standardised data flow, with a special focus on integrating diverse types of imaging data. Join us as we explore the full journey—from planning for effective sample metadata collection to the open publication of FAIR datasets.

The webinar series will cover key principles and best practices in data management, with a particular emphasis on bioimaging data collected from large-scale environmental sampling studies. It will also explore how this data can be integrated with other data types derived from the same samples in the future.

The series is organised by the STANDFLOW project, an initiative supported by EMBL’s Planetary biology Transversal Theme. STANDFLOW is about a collaborative effort towards creating a standardised data management workflow. The project primarily utilises imaging data derived from samples collected through the TREC (Traversing European Coastlines) and the Roscoff Culture Collection.

The webinars making up this series are listed below. Follow the links to find out more about each webinar. You will need to register for each webinar you would like to attend. Recordings will be made openly available of all webinars on their individual pages.

Please note that additional webinars will be added to the list shortly.

Who is this series for?

The webinar series is aimed at marine biologists and environmental scientists collecting samples from the natural environment, generating, visualising, annotating and analysing large, multimodal datasets such as imaging data, and sharing their data by submitting them to public data repositories. The series will support you to set up an efficient data flow that is aligned with FAIR principles.

How to attend

Each webinar, hosted on Zoom Webinar, is free to attend, but you will need to register for a place beforehand, using the ‘Register’ button that can be found on each webinar’s page. Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to join the webinar.

It is necessary to register for each webinar in the series you would like to attend.
