During the webinar ‘Deep-sea knowledge for effective Ocean management’, EMB will launch its Future Science Brief No 12 on ‘Deep Sea Research and Management Needs’. This document addresses the critical need to increase our knowledge on the deep sea, an often-overlooked yet vital component of our global ecosystem and climate regulation. Effective management of this environment requires a robust scientific foundation as well as international cooperation. Science-policy communication and transdisciplinary research will be crucial in the sustainable use of the deep sea, particularly as the BBNJ Agreement Conference of Parties (COPs) unfolds.
