New tool for estimating blue carbon in the Pacific Northwest

The PNW Regional Blue Carbon Calculator was developed by scientists, state agencies, and nonprofit partners as an easy-to-use tool for estimating the emissions and sequestration impacts of land management actions such as wetland conservation, restoration, or degradation. It translates blue carbon science into regionally relevant estimates. Coastal wetlands are powerful climate and resilience assets. This calculator makes it easier to put their climate value to work in planning, policy, and funding decisions. The tool is available now as a downloadable Excel spreadsheet, with an online version coming later this year.

While this tool is specific to PNW, the methodology is adaptable and could serve as a model for other regions.
