The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that approximately one in four Americans reported having a disability in 2022. On the international level, the World Health Organization reports approximately 16% of the global population live with a significant disability. This workshop is designed to address the frequently underserved community of disabled individuals working conservation and earth science. The objectives of this workshop are to share stories and experiences from professional lives to build a supportive community, develop strategies for increasing the visibility and participation of disabled individuals in conservation and earth sciences, and discuss the potential founding of an advocacy organization and planning of a larger in-person event in 2027. Individuals from the Mid-Atlantic as well as the US West Coast are especially encouraged to participate. Scientists with foreign citizenship currently living and working in the US are welcome to participate.
