EMB Science webinar: Towards a coordinated observation of Essential Variables in the Mediterranean: the Italian research infrastructure contribution – 16 July 2026, Online

On Thursday 16 July 2026, EMB will host its 62nd Third Thursday Science Webinar featuring Dr. Simone Toller, who will present the topic of “The Contribution of Italian Research Infrastructures towards a Coordinated Observation of Essential Variables in the Mediterranean”.

This webinar links to the EMB Polic Brief No. 9 “Sustaining in situ Ocean observations in the age of the digital ocean“.

Simone Toller is a Technologist at the Institute of Marine Sciences of the Italian National Research Council (CNR‑ISMAR), working in the field of environmental observation and marine geochemistry. His research focuses on the monitoring and analysis of marine and transitional environments, with particular emphasis on long-term observing systems, fixed platforms, and environmental sensor networks. He contributes to the development and integration of multidisciplinary datasets supporting national and European research infrastructures, advancing the coordinated observation of Essential Ocean, Climate, and Biodiversity Variables (EOVs, ECVs, EBVs). His work addresses ecosystem dynamics and human impacts across coastal and Mediterranean systems, including the study of water and sediments.
