Tellus Civic Science, the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, and the NOAA National MPA Center will be hosting a virtual seminar on why resilience is a national security priority and how Pacific MPAs and security are interconnected on August 4/5. This seminar aims to foster a regional community of practice among Pacific MPA and Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures (OECM) managers. It will discuss how to strengthen communications between environmental managers and marine security agencies (such as police, coast guards, and navies), identify funding sources, and integrate national security priorities – encompassing defense, human, environmental, economic and other aspects of security – with coastal resilience planning. Professionals across the MPA community, marine resource managers, security and law enforcement personnel, and regional policy experts focused on the Indo-Pacific are all welcome. The seminar will be held Tuesday, August 4, from 14:00-16:00 Hawaii Standard Time (HST) which is Wednesday, August 5, from 07:00-09:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB), 08:00-10:00 Philippines Standard Time (PHST), 10:00-12:00 Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST), and 12:00-14:00 Fiji Time (FJT).
