ENSTA supports the transformation of major national strategic sectors through its research, innovation and educational programmes, thereby addressing the challenges of national sovereignty. It comprises six teaching and research units (UFRs) which conduct applied research in close collaboration with industry.
ENSTA is a founding member of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris). As part of IP Paris, the school participates in the activities of IP Paris interdisciplinary centres, notably the Interdisciplinary Centre for Seas and Ocean (CIMO), co-founded with Ifremer and supported by the Defence Innovation Agency (AID) and the French research council CNRS. Researchers from the school also collaborate on studies led by interdisciplinary centres such as Hi-Paris – winner of the 2024 AI Cluster award – E4C and E4H, amongst others.
Joining the school means becoming part of an institution committed to gender parity and professional equality, diversity and supporting its staff with disabilities, from the moment of recruitment and throughout their careers. To safeguard wellbeing at work, the school pursues an active policy on working conditions, based in particular on a healthy work-life balance.
The AMRIT project
Today in Europe, the operations of in situ observing platforms rely on a network of Research Infrastructures distributed all around Europe. The activities in the network include in situ and remote operations at sea and data management of a large number of assets for a wide variety of applications. Such activities rely on important IT resources, R&D to improve the capacity of the platforms, as well as managerial and financial activities to run the infrastructures and provide access to them. AMRIT (Advance Marine Research Infrastructures Together) is a pioneering project designed to revolutionise the landscape of marine research infrastructures in Europe, strengthening their ability to respond to Europe’s policy and global scientific challenges.
AMRIT is a Horizon Europe & UKRI funded project, with 26 European partners, designed to advance Marine Research Infrastructures (MRIs). By developing tools and services integrating the operations of marine observation platforms, AMRIT aims to:
- Ensure seamless operation of marine observation platforms.
- Ensure the full nominal use of sensors and accelerate their evolution.
- Exploit the complementarity of the various observation platforms.
- Ensure the overall coherence of the ocean data value chain.
- Ensure a consistent and comprehensive list of metadata and descriptors.
