Beekeepers Healing a Community and Its Mangroves

A group of women in Makongeni, Kenya, are being celebrated for protecting both bees and coastal ecosystems through community-led beekeeping. The Makongeni Beekeepers care for nearby mangroves to keep their bees healthy, while the restored mangroves provide vital breeding grounds for fish, supporting local fisheries in return. Led by chairlady Zayneb Hamisi Mandano, the initiative has become an important source of support for vulnerable women in the community. The short film forms part of Human Nature, a collaboration between Earthrise and Earth Alliance exploring the connections between people and the natural world.
