The Trump administration has reversed plans to dismantle the Ocean Observatories Initiative following strong opposition. The National Science Foundation will continue operating and maintaining the system while seeking input on its future. The network’s hundreds of sensors provide critical data on ocean conditions, climate change, marine ecosystems and extreme weather, supporting research and decision-making around the world.
