In Indonesia’s Raja Ampat, home to some of the world’s most biodiverse coral reefs, efforts are underway to restore a missing predator. The Indo-Pacific leopard shark was driven to near extinction by the shark-finning industry, leaving it absent from reefs where it once thrived. Through the StAR Project, the international ReShark coalition is working with aquariums, NGOs, governments, researchers and local communities to return the species to Raja Ampat’s waters.
