From Shells to Sweaters

160,000 metric tons of mollusk shells are discarded annually from restaurants and fishing businesses. In Taiwan, a business has developed a novel approach to harvest this waste product by grounding up the shells and process them into a flexible yarn similar to sheep’s wool, appropriately dubbed “sea wool. The product is a sustainable alternative to artificial textiles and helps reduce fashion waste.
