This is the final meeting of the 2nd project phase of MiningImpact, which involves 29 scientific partners from 9 European countries and the ISA, funded through JPI Oceans. MiningImpact 2 focuses on assessing the environmental impacts and risks associated with future deep-sea mining activities of polymetallic nodules. The core of the project are two sea-going expeditions, SO268 and IP21, conducting an independent scientific monitoring of the first industrial test of a pre-prototype collectorvehicle in the German and Belgian exploration license areas of the Clarion Clipperton Zone in the east-equatorial Pacific Ocean. This is an exclusive opportunity to learn about the latest scientific results and recommendations for international regulations, such as the ISA’s Mining Code.
