The Ocean covers more than 70% of the surface of our planet, yet it too often remains on the sidelines of major international and European agendas. To mobilise the international community and take concrete action to reduce these adverse effects on the ocean, the President of the French Republic has decided to organise a One Planet Summit dedicated to the Ocean – the “One Ocean Summit”, from 9 to 11 February 2022, in Brest, France.

The One Ocean Summit aims to raise the international community’s level of ambition on maritime issues; to translate our shared responsibility for the Ocean into concrete actions. A high-level segment will take place on February 11 morning with Heads of State and Government, as well as leaders of international organisations, local authorities, civil society, business and finance – all ready to commit to concrete responses and ambitious initiatives. The focus will be on the protection of marine ecosystems and sustainable fisheries, the fight against pollution (especially plastic), climate change, and ocean governance. The high-level segment will be preceded by diverse preparatory events on February 9 and 10. exploring a multitude of subjects with a global scope, thus addressing the ocean in all its dimensions by bringing forth an ‘ocean of solutions’.

Participate in the One Ocean Summit. Discover the initiatives and solutions that take concrete action on the major challenges that threaten the Ocean’s future. You can find full information here.

There is also an opportunity to engage in the One Ocean Summit University Initiative, which focuses on future training needs, with input from PhDs and Postdocs particularly of interest. Find out more via this link.
