This survey will enable Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOPs) to contribute to the preparation phase of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, 2021-2030. The Decade is a critical opportunity to galvanise transformative actions for the ocean we need for the future we want. This survey is conducted under the auspices of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC).

What is the purpose of this survey? This survey intends to: i) identify early career ocean professionals and gather information about their interests and expertise relating to the Decade; ii) gather information about perceived priority actions for the Decade; and iii) identify key capacity gaps and challenges. Ultimately, this survey intends to raise awareness about the Decade and to enable the views of ECOPs worldwide to be integrated into the Decade preparation phase.

Who should complete this survey? Anyone who identifies as an early career ocean professional should complete this survey. For example, individuals who are undertaking post-graduate studies or who have, in the past ten years, completed professional training in areas relevant to the advancement and application of ocean science for sustainable development and are active in: ocean science and technology; business or industry; civil society and non-governmental organisations; or policy.

How will the data be used? The raw data will be available to the IOC secretariat, anonymised results will be made available to the Decade Executive Planning Group and the Informal Working Group on Early Career Ocean Professionals. This will be used to contribute to the Decade Implementation Plan. Aggregate anonymised data may be published at a later stage.
