The EU Biodiversity Strategy aims to establish a truly coherent Trans-European Nature Network. It sets ambitious protection targets to be achieved by 2030; 30% of the land and 30% of the sea should be protected and at least 1/3rd (10% of land and 10% of sea) should be under a strict protection. The Commission is still working on the implementation of this strategy and the final definition of “strict protection” is still in discussion. In this context the European Agency for Climate, Infrastructures and the Environment (CINEA) asked the LIFE IP MarHa to organize a life Platform meeting in order to know more about the deployment of strong protected areas in Europe and taking stock of the current situation.

The Life Platform Meeting  will be mainly focused on feedback sessions about national and local experiences. The meeting will be a working seminar and will present different study-cases from several European MPA, in order to understand mechanisms, discuss about the tools used, methods followed, as well as scientific and technical work carried out.
