The Resilience Partnership of the European Ocean Governance Project has identified case studies and good practices for MPA managers dealing with rapid development and drastic changes in their geographical contexts. Capitalizing on the real-world experiences of partnership members, the Resilience Partnership has developed a toolkit to promote resilience-oriented management of MPAs. This toolkit includes the R-SAT (Resilience Self-Assessment Tool) which is already being used in ~15 countries in Africa, Europe, North America, South America, and the Indian Ocean. Feedback on R-SAT is enthusiastic and highlights its innovative character and simplicity. R-SAT is complementary with other existing management effectiveness evaluation frameworks and allows new management practices to be incorporated quickly – leading to improved anticipation capacity and strengthened partnerships that make MPAs stronger and better prepared for changes.

The Resilience Partnership will present its findings at IMPAC5 with the session: Effectively Managing MPAs: A New Toolkit for MPA Resilience Management (IMPAC5-LCS-1492 – February 4th – Room 220-222 – 16h-17h).
