According to an article published by the UK Research and Innovation body, scientists managed to recover sensors that were drifting across the Atlantic Ocean which held data on a seabed sediment avalanche, the world’s longest recorded one, that travelled 1100km off the West Coast of Africa in 2020. The data which was recovered showed that the sensors moorings were broken by the water flows generated by this avalanche, and will help predict future impacts of such hazards to undersea installations. The findings from the recovered data have now been published in Nature Communications.
