SAERI’s objective is to be a world class academic institute, based in the Falkland Islands, operating in the South Atlantic from the equator down to the ice in Antarctica. SAERI is implementing a project with the Department for Environment and Coastal Resources (DECR) in the Turks and Caicos islands, and is recruiting for two positions to be based in Providenciales, TCI.
Project Officer (GIS &Data Manager): ‘Developing Marine Spatial Planning tools for the Turks & Caicos Islands.
This position will support the Project Manager to implement the Darwin Plus funded ‘Developing Marine Spatial planning tools for the Turks & Caicos Islands.
This is a data management position that will support the Project Manager to deliver the two-year Marine Spatial Planning Project funded by Darwin Plus. Currently, the Turks & Caicos Islands (TCI) have no holistic strategic approach to marine management. The project will, through review, analysesand consultation, provide this framework, enabling the TCIs to start to plan and manage the sustainable development and conservation of their marine environment
Through an innovative integrated, stakeholder-led approach – connecting science and communities, this project builds a Territory-to-Territory partnership between SAERI in the Falklands Islands and DECR in the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) to Develop Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) tools for TCI to feed into long-term planning and decision-making in the marine environment.
In addition to the scientific work packages, this project has a core stakeholder engagement component, and the Project Manager will work with, and engage a wide range of stakeholders in addition to regular liaisonwith project partners.
The position will be based in the DECR’s head office in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands. The post is for a period of two years.
Applicants should have a Post Graduate degree in GIS and data management or equivalent subject and at least 3-5 years post graduate experience working in marine spatial planning.
