Job Description
The Department of Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Old Dominion University (ODU) seeks candidates with research interests in sea level change for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. Research interests can include any of the following: sea level change, ocean dynamics associated with sea level variability, analysis of global earth system models, and remote and local influences on sea level variability.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an independent and externally funded research program, contribute to teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level, mentor graduate students, and contribute to ODU’s Resilience Collaborative and other interdisciplinary research activities focused on climate change and sea level rise.
Exceptional candidates will be considered for appointment at the Associate Professor level.

Minimum Qualifications – knowledge, skills, and abilities
Expertise in analysis of global and local observations of sea level change and its causes, understanding of quantitative tools used to retrieve and analyze observations, ability to analyze Earth System model solutions and compare them to observations, and the skills to convey this understanding to non-specialists. Excellence in oral and written communication is required.
Minimum Qualifications – Education or training
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in ocean science or a related field as well as one or more years of postdoctoral experience.
