CALL FOR PAPERS: MEASURES TO COUNTER MARINE PLASTIC POLLUTION IN THE ASIA-PACIFIC REGION

[Please submit an abstract of between 250 to 300 words, and a brief personal biography of not more than 150 words, at https://nus.edu/37Zu07, by 1 August 2020, 5pm Singapore time (GMT+8).]

The Asia-Pacific Centre for Environmental Law (Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore), invites your abstract submissions. Please see the following for details, including important dates.

SYNOPSIS
Countries in the Asia-Pacific region are still struggling to reduce their plastic debris in the ocean. The main sources of marine plastic debris are land-based, from urban and storm runoff, sewer overflows, beach visitors, inadequate waste disposal management, industrial activities, construction and illegal dumping. Ocean-based plastic originates mainly from the fishing industry, nautical activities, and aquaculture. There is an urgent need for countries in the Asia-Pacific region to learn best practices and challenges from each other in combating marine plastic debris in the area.
The purpose of this online workshop is to explore how, why, when, and what forms of measures should be adopted to counter marine plastic debris in the Asia-Pacific region. We welcome the submission of abstracts that examine the various legal measures concerning marine plastic debris in the Asia-Pacific region, and particularly encourage interdisciplinary engagements. Questions that will guide the workshop discussions can include:
What forms of legal measures exist in your country or region to combat marine plastic debris?
To what extent do measures combating marine plastic debris include stakeholders?
Do the measures combating marine plastic debris involve other regimes of debris?
What can be done to increase international collaboration in combating marine plastic debris efforts?
