Dear Colleague,

In a continuation of the first (2018) and the second (2019) successful editions of the Springer/SSG Conference of the Arabian Journal of Geosciences (1st CAJG and 2nd CAJG), this 3rd CAJG will continue to build on this success as the biggest destination in MENA region for geoscientists from all over the world to present and discuss their most recent findings.

The 3rd CAJG will continue to publish the newest findings in the proceedings and some special issues by Springer, with a clear mission aiming at (1) driving greater North-South (Europe-Africa/Middle East) scientific cooperation, (2) opening doors to new and enriching collaborations with geoscientists based in Asia and the Americas and at (3) discussing most new research studies from the wide-ranging fields of earth sciences worldwide.

2 – 5 November 2020 in Sousse, Tunisia

www.cajg.org

Abstract (max. 500 words) Submission Deadline: 30 April 2020

========

The 3rd CAJG: Of the course of 4 days, the conference, set in a stimulating environment in Sousse, Tunisia, will provide attendees an occasion to share their latest unpublished findings and to learn about the new studies. Many important scientists have already signed up to attend and will be sharing their latest research findings (see below Keynote Speakers, Workshops, Courses, Special Session on Petroleum Systems by NARG – University of Manchester).

Registration: On 31 May 2020, authors of the accepted abstracts (max. 500 words) will be invited to register online. At the same time, registration will open to those wishing to attend the conference without presenting a paper, and for those wishing to publish a paper in the proceedings without attending the conference.

Conference Proceedings: All accepted authors will be invited to extend (optional, not compulsory) their abstracts into a short proceedings paper (3-4 pages). These short papers will undergo an in-depth peer-review process aiming at preparing quality proceedings for publication by Springer. The proceedings will be edited by international experts in the field and will be submitted to Scopus for indexation. Here, the link to the proceedings of the past editions of CAJG: https://link.springer.com/conference/cajg

Special Issues: The aim of the conference is to highlight the newest research. We plan to publish a set of high-quality topical collections (special issues) on cross-cutting themes of earth and environmental sciences. Authors of the best papers will be invited, after the conference, to submit the full and comprehensive version of their proceedings papers to the following Springer journals:

– Arabian Journal of Geosciences (IF 1.15)
– Journal of Soils and Sediments (IF 2.6)
– International Journal of Earth Sciences (IF 2.2)
– Environmental Earth Sciences (IF 1.5)
– Journal of Arid Land (IF 1.4)
– Journal of Petroleum Exploration and Production Technology (indexed in ISI’s ESCI)
– Euro-Mediterranean Journal for Environmental Integration (indexed in ISI’s ESCI)
– Earth Systems and Environment (indexed in Scopus)
– Applied Water Science (indexed in ISI’s ESCI)
– Innovative Infrastructure Solutions (indexed in ISI’s ESCI and Scopus)
– Mediterranean Geoscience Reviews (newly launched)
– SN Applied Sciences (newly launched)

Keynote Speakers: A number of renowned scientists will be presenting their newest studies during the conference. We are now finalizing the list of confirmed speakers.

Special Session on Petroleum Systems in North Africa by NARG: The North Africa Research Group (NARG) was founded in 2000 at the University of Manchester, UK. NARG brings together industry, academia and other local stakeholders with the desire to promote multi-disciplinary research with a petroleum geoscience theme across northern Africa. A special session is planned to highlight the newest research on the Petroleum Systems in North Africa.

Field trip: Immediately after the conference on November 5th, tow field trip are planned to southern Tunisia, offering to the attendees the chance to enjoy the wonders of the Geology of Tunisia and get involved in new experiences and sensations (see Field-trips).

Past Editions of CAJG: The 1st and 2nd editions of Springer/SSG Conference of the Arabian Journal of Geosciences (CAJG) attracted more than 450 scientists from 70 countries. Here, we invite you to discover these memorable events:

========

Important notice: The 3rd CAJG will take place as scheduled and we are proceeding with all plans to convene the meeting.

However, from now until the conference days, no one can predict the worldwide development and spread of coronavirus and how long this situation will last. That is why, CAJG organizing committee decided to provide the possibility of presenting online to those who prefer not to attend the conference in person.

Interested authors are encouraged to submit an abstract of their presentation and to leave the decision (online registration deadline: 15 September 2020) as to whether to attend the conference and to present onsite or just online. More details about the online presentation feature will be provided after notification of acceptances.

Plan B: If the risk associated with the spread of coronavirus will continue after this summer, we’ll decide before the deadline for online registration (15 September 2020) about the possibility of organizing online the full conference or to postpone it to Spring 2021. In all cases, we’ll inform you about our decision before the deadline for online registration (i.e. 2 months before your trip to Tunisia).

We hope to meet you at the 3rd CAJG on the Mediterranean waterfront of Sousse!

Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions (contact@cajg.org).

Yours sincerely,

On behalf of the 3rd CAJG Organizing Committee:

Abdullah Alamri, KSA (General Chairman)
François Roure, France (Scientific Committee Chairman)
Giovanni Bertotti, The Netherlands (Advisory Committee co-Chairman)
Walter D. Mooney, USA (Advisory Committee co-Chairman)
Nabil Khelifi, Germany (Conference Supervisor)
