UQ has advertised an 18 month post to examine the design of MPAs in the Coral Triangle. International applicants are welcome to apply.
The position is to develop new theory and tools for the design of Marine Protected Areas, primarily on coral reefs. In recent years we have collaborated with partners at the World Wildlife Fund to develop theory and tools for the design of Marine Protected Areas, with a particular focus on how to rebuild fisheries (ccres.net<http://ccres.net>). We are looking to extend this work in partnership with several conservation NGOs (WWF, WCS) working in Indonesia and elsewhere. The aim is to test and refine MPA design strategies that not only rebuild fisheries but also maintain conservation benefits given climate change. In addition, we are looking to include a variety of social factors, including equity. This is an exciting opportunity to join an established team and lead the development and uptake of new tools.
