About the role:

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a dynamic scientist with initiative and creativity to provide scientific leadership and develop new ideas and proposals within the Satellite Oceanography team at NOC. We are particularly interested in scientific expertise related to exploiting satellite remote sensing to monitor and understand atmosphere-ocean processes, upper ocean dynamics and/or long-term environmental change in global, coastal and/or polar oceans.

You will initially help to deliver existing satellite projects but will gradually take a leading role in developing new ideas and proposals in this rapidly growing field of research. The post represents a key element of NOC’s strategy to strengthen its research capability in Satellite Oceanography.

Key responsibilities for this position will include leading and coordinating the preparation and submission of research proposals, providing scientific leadership for the production of high impact publications, and supervising post-doctoral researchers and the delivery of research projects. The post holder will play a central role in securing research funding from national and international bodies to complement the Satellite Oceanography research portfolio at NOC.

About you:

You will have several years of post-doctoral experience with a track record for scientific excellence in at least one relevant scientific topic, demonstrated evidence of performing research leading to high-impact publications, and a sound record in developing and leading successful proposals. Previous experience of managing people, projects and resources will be essential.

A balance of scientific expertise, creativity, practical management skills, business acumen and excellent communication, inter-personal and networking skills will be essential. You will have demonstrated the ability to deliver scientific leadership and expertise and to work effectively with people with a wide range of backgrounds. An appetite for working on innovative and challenging topics at the interface between science and engineering is highly desirable.
