Ifremer (French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea) is offering one (1) at-sea training place for candidates of developing states in accordance with its contract for polymetallic sulphides exploration with the International Seabed Authority. The at-sea training will take place on-board one of Ifremer’s research vessel for a duration of approximately two months.

The training will take place between March and May 2017 and will be organised as follow: 2 days pre-cruise (at the port of mobilization); 44 days at-sea training (15th March and 28th April 2017); and 10 days for the post-cruise training in Brest.

The objective of the at-sea training is to provide a practical experience about polymetallic sulphides exploration cruises and activities.

As a minimum requirement, candidates should hold a bachelor/master degree of science in the relevant field of geology, geochemistry, geophysics, mineralogy or have an equivalent educational background. Candidates should have at least one year of work experience in the relevant field.

Candidates must also be proficient in either French or English (both written and spoken).

Ifremer will cover the following costs: ? International airfares (economy class, flight from the country of origin to the country of mobilization, flight from the port of demobilization to Brest and flight from Brest to the country of origin); ? Accommodation ? local transport if required and meals for the duration of the training.

Submission of application should be in one of the official languages of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) in electronic format to sends e-mail) should be received by 16th December 2016.

Applications must also include a medical certificate (template) confirming the applicant’s ability to work at sea and to board the exploration cruise.
