The Australian Institute of Marine Science is calling for applications for four new senior science positions. Applications are invited for the following jobs:
Biological-Chemical Oceanographer:
Position Summary: Lead a group of researchers to conduct field-based research and monitoring of coastal water quality. Lead and conduct original applied and strategic research to investigate issues in tropical coastal marine water quality, especially shelf-scale and nutrient dynamics, and the transport and fate of particulate and organic materials, and disseminate the research outcomes. Collaborate with the Coastal Biogeochemical Modeller to synthesise and interpret AIMS’ large body of oceanographic and water quality data. Establish collaborations, and liaise with external clients, to increase AIMS’ research capacity in the field.
Coastal Biogeochemical Modeller:
Position Summary: Lead the development and application of biogeochemical modelling research relevant to Australia’s tropical continental shelf systems.. Work across inter-disciplinary teams of oceanographers, hydrodynamic modellers, biogeochemists, marine ecologists and ecological modellers to develop and apply coastal biogeochemical models to investigate the drivers of coastal water quality, and its response to local management interventions and regional and global pressures.
Ecological Statistician – Ecosystem Modeller
Position Summary: Lead and conduct nationally and internationally recognised marine research by applying advanced skills in statistical and mathematical analysis and modelling to long-term, large data sets to facilitate the solution of complex problems in marine ecology, biodiversity and ecosystem health in a dynamic and changing environment.
Research Scientist – Environmental Impacts
Position Summary: To lead and/or contribute to research into the effects of coastal development projects in tropical sub-tropical Australia especially those related to dredging impacts and other ecotoxicological assessments of water quality.
To procure and manage resources (internal and external) so as to build critical mass within AIMS in order to respond to the research challenges related to environmental impacts of coastal development.
To enhance the national and international profile of AIMS in the areas of research on the impacts of dredging and other coastal development through world class publications and other influences, including consultancy to industry and government.
