If you have a keen interest in modelling fish population and ecosystem dynamics, distribution, productivity, stock assessment in support of management advice, this may be the perfect position for you. At DTU Aqua, you will combine these areas to ensure that pelagic fish management advice is based on the forefront of scientific knowledge of stock assessment and ecosystem based advice.

You will join the Section for Ecosystem based Marine Management at DTU in Lyngby. The section has 25 employees and focuses on interdisciplinary research improving our understanding of marine ecosystems and how they are managed. It offers an internationally recognised and highly dynamic scientific environment.

Responsibilities and qualifications

Your work will contribute to strengthening the knowledge of the coupling between the optimal exploitation of fish stocks, their distribution and ecosystem impacts such as recruitment success, growth conditions and their relationship with stock density and other ecosystem components.

The research tasks will focus on incorporating factors and processes affecting recruitment, growth, mortality and spatial distribution of fish and other ecosystem components in the evaluation of fishing impact. The position includes collaboration with stakeholder organizations, management bodies and Danish and international research institutions. We are looking for an innovative person, preferably a researcher specialised in fish ecology, with excellent modelling skills, a committed and positive attitude, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in a team, as well as independently.

The successful applicant will engage in our existing extensive international collaboration with other research institutions, managers, NGOs as well as fishermen’s organisations. Important tasks include the development and completion of new research and management projects, publication of results in peer reviewed scientific journals, popular journals and technical reports, and provision of advice in national and international arenas. The candidate will be responsible for planning and completing stock assessments and is expected to contribute to the development of new methods for incorporating ecosystem and anthropogenic impacts on commercially fished stocks

You must contribute to the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in fish ecology, community ecology or fish population modelling.

In the assessment of the candidates, particular consideration will be given to:

  • Experience with modelling of fish productivity and/or distribution
  • Experience with handling and statistical analysis of large amounts of data
  • Experience with pelagic fish stock assessment and scientific advice for pelagic fish
  • Publication in international scientific journals

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The position is a full-time position and start date is as early as feasible.
