About the position

The Integrative Fish Biology group is looking for a Senior Researcher to reinforce its strategic development within the sustainable aquaculture solutions. You will be integrated in a forward-looking and dynamic fish biology research team, working closely with relevant expertise (cross- groups/departments) on research and innovation of high value for the aquaculture industry.

Knowledge of fish biology is the corner stone of research in fish aquaculture and essential to the development of modern and efficient production systems, including sea-cages, land-based (RAS, Flow-Through) and semi-closed containment systems (SCC). Today the aquaculture industry face different biological challenges, both in freshwater and seawater, where research and innovation within fish biology are crucial towards sustainable aquaculture solutions. There will be a focus on various aspects of fish biology with special attention/consideration on Health and welfare.

The desired candidate should have a solid background in fish biology with field experience. Interest in developing knowledge and solutions for real-time collection of biological and environmental data and their interpretation, will be a strong asset. The candidate should also have a good understanding of fish health and welfare aspects, the underlying physiological processes (e.g. molecular, immunological, or metabolic pathways), and the current status in the aquaculture industry. The researcher will also be able to develop own research interests, in line with NORCE strategy.

Work Tasks

  • Project development, i.e. project applications to Norwegian Research Council, EU and other funding agencies;
  • Development of novel approaches to fish health and welfare in fish farms, based on solid scientific background in fish biology and physiology;
  • Collaboration with industry partners, establishing collaboration network;
  • Project implementation and reporting, scientific publications and dissemination of results.
  • Participation in interdisciplinary initiatives at NORCE in close collaboration with other research groups and departments; contribution to NORCE strategy on sustainable Aquaculture.

Competence requirements

PhD degree with at least 5- year experience, in one or more of the following areas:

  • Fish health and welfare (physiology, molecular & pathology diagnostics)
  • Experience from working with production systems including RAS and/or flow-through systems
  • Experience from working/collaborating and/or a documented network in the aquaculture industry
  • Experience in developing research and innovation proposals (NFR; EU) Documented results on scientific  communication and dissemination.
  • Proficient in English and Norwegian
