A call for a PhD-position in Venice on the topic ‘Long term monitoring of the Western Mediterranean water masses using autonomous vehicles‘ is now open. The successful candidate will analyze the data coming from the glider SMART missions and other glider missions that are available in the northwestern Mediterranean. The SMART (Sardinia – MAllorca Repeated Transect) missions are scheduled twice a year (in spring and in fall) between Sardinia and Mallorca. The main objectives of this mission is to build up a long-term repeated transect Menorca-Sardinia to monitor medium-to-long-term variability of surface and intermediate water masses. Along with SMART in the north-western basin there are a number of other sustained glider lines, and most data are available on international repositories. The PhD candidate will use the available glider data collected in the last decade to assess the temporal variability of the Mediterranean water masses in the study area.

The call can be found here on page 25. All applications need to be submitted via this link by 13 May 2022.
