Position Description 

Finless Foods is an exciting startup with a mission to create a future for seafood where the ocean thrives, and we are looking for talented individuals to join our growing team. The Policy and Impact Manager will support international and federal policy engagement, manage projects related to the company’s sustainability and impact, and help build stakeholder relationships in the environmental, food, and seafood communities. A successful candidate will have experience in seafood and ocean policy, knowledge of the sustainable food policy landscape, strong writing and communication skills, a track record of successful project management and collaborative relationship building, and a drive to make a positive impact in the world. The position can be based in either the Greater Bay Area, CA or Washington, DC and will report to the Chief Strategy Officer.

Key Responsibilities

As the Policy and Impact Manager you will be responsible for:

  • Public Policy
    • Support with outreach and engagement with Congress, federal agencies, and relevant stakeholders and interest groups relevant to the policy landscape.
    • Help manage relationships with coalitions, coalition partners, and consultants.
    • Track federal, state, and international policy as related to cell-cultured and plant-based seafood, ocean policy, and related issues.
  • Internal and External Project Management
    • Ensure efficient communications and timely completion of tasks for internal and external projects. Keep management updated and informed of progress.
    • Utilize software such as Asana and other technology platforms to ensure tasks are moving forward to meet goals on time and to track and manage relationship building.
    • Provide cross-functional support to the communication and marketing team, including seeding ideas, sharing key policy objectives and timely issues, and supporting substantive content development.
  • Managing Stakeholder Engagement
    • Grow and build stakeholder engagement, including initial outreach, follow-ups, and taking the initiative to deepen relationships.
    • Represent Finless Foods at meetings and workshops, lead on building relationships with key individuals and organizations, and report back.
    • Support in managing and liaising with the Impact Advisory Board, including helping to agenda-set and organize quarterly and annual meetings and monthly report-outs.
  • Content Creation and Review
    • Draft content on policy, ocean/impact, and seafood, including blogs, op-eds, fact sheets, talking points, and presentations.
    • Review policy documents and other materials and provide feedback/comments informed by substantive understanding of policy and the impact landscape.
  • Manage Corporate and Strategic Sustainability Initiatives
    • Strategize, flesh out, and execute internal and external sustainability initiatives including corporate social responsibility activities.
    • Help ensure an impact-centered product pipeline.
    • Engage with the sustainable seafood community and identify opportunities for contributing to the landscape and narrative.
    • Manage Life Cycle Analysis workflows and other formal sustainability reporting.

Experience, Skills, and Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, environmental science or management, or related degree.
  • 5-7 years experience in sustainable food systems, sustainable seafood, ocean or sustainability policy, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, analyze, and synthesize complex policy information.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare written documents, briefings, and presentations quickly, clearly, and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with diverse teams; integrate across disciplines; and work collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders, and communicate about complex policy issues.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including ability to provide articulate thought leadership on relevant topics.
  • Creative, intuitively strategic, and invested in making a positive impact in the world.
  • Demonstrated expertise and thought leadership in relevant policy fields including, food, seafood, ocean, and sustainability.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable.
  • Great multitasking skills with the ability to see the big picture and remain attentive to details, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Collaborative team player; willing to take on a variety of tasks to further the program goals.
  • Willingness and ability to travel, nationally and internationally, as required
