Postdoctoral Research Associate/Fellow on the Phytoplankton Response to Climate Change (PRIME) Project, Cornwall – Deadline 02 September 2021
The University of Exeter wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate or Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in a research project called Phytoplankton Response to Climate Change (PRIME). This UKRI funded post is available from the 1st of October 2021 to the 30th of June 2025 in the College of Life and Environmental Sciences.
The post will be based at The Centre for Geography, Environment and Society which is within the College of Life and Environmental Sciences on the Penryn Campus. The successful applicant will work on a research grant investigating the response of phytoplankton to climate change. Your focus will be specifically on the impact of climate change on the vertical distribution of phytoplankton in the ocean. Experience or knowledge of oceanography is desirable, but not essential. There will be a large emphasis on data mining and handling, processing, and analysing, large oceanographic datasets.
The post will include scientific method development, scientific programming, analyses, leading/writing journal papers and opportunities to travel. The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.
Applicants will hold (or be close to completing) a PhD, have experience in publishing scientific journal papers, be numerically proficient and be comfortable writing scientific software, and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in their discipline, and of research methods and techniques used in their discipline. Experience or education in any of the following: oceanography, marine biology, physics or remote sensing is desirable, but not essential.
