Starting Date: Spring 2022 Semester UH position #: pending
Minimum Starting Salary: Step 08 – $22,140 annual @ 20hrs per week (0.5%Â FTE). Includes full tuition waiver and access to health care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with water sample collection at various coastal areas
- Assist with water sample preparation including DNA extraction in a Biosafety level 2 lab
- Perform bacterial culture and DNA amplification experiments with fecal indicator bacteria
- Record and interpret results experiments
- Assist PI with development of new LAMP assays for fecal indicator bacteria
- Assist PI with writing and publication of papers for journal submissions
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (MQs):
- Must be a classified degree-seeking student in a MS or PhD program
- Must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above;
- Have some education or experience in Microbiology
- Demonstrated competency in general computer programs (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with others
- Interest in coastal water quality and reef/human health
Desirable Qualifications:
- Background in molecular biology, biotechnology, and/or bioinformatics
- Prior experience with LAMP or PCR
- Prior experience with DNA extraction from water samples
- Prior research and data analysis experience
- Experience in a biosafety level 2 lab
- Doctoral student
