It is now open a call for applications for one post-doctoral research fellowships ((BIPD1/ATLANTIDA-CBMA/2022) in the framework of the R&D project “ATLANTIDA – Platform for the monitoring of the North Atlantic Ocean and tools for the sustainable exploitation of marine resources”, reference, NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000040, cofunded by NORTE2020 through the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), under the following conditions:

Scientific area: Biological Sciences

Recipient category: The post-doctoral research fellowships are intended for doctorates in the field of Biological Sciences and related areas, who cumulatively meet the following requirements:

  • Holders of a PhD degree obtained in the three years prior to the date of submission of the scholarship application;
  • Have carried out the research work that led to the attribution of a doctoral degree in an entity other than the host unit (Centro de Biologia Molecular e Ambiental, CBMA);
  • Do not exceed, with the conclusion of the contract in question, including possible renewals, a cumulative period of three years in this type of scholarship, consecutive or interpolated.

Candidates who do not cumulatively meet the requirements described above will be excluded.

Eligibility of applicants: applicants must meet the eligibility conditions established in article 9º of the FCT I.P Research Grant Regulation (2019).

Application deadline and submission: The call for applications is open from 09/05/2022 to 20/05/2022.

Applications must be sent exclusively by e-mail to cbma_sec@bio.uminho.pt, with the subject “BIPD1/ATLANTIDA-CBMA/2022”, with the following documents:

  • Curriculum Vitae of the candidate, in Portuguese or in English;
  • Certificates of the academic degree(s) or the candidate’s declaration of honor (if applicable);
  • Motivation letter, in English;
  • Letters of recommendation (if applicable);
  • Other documents considered relevant to the assessment of the scientific and professional path.

The academic degrees and diplomas documents, or their respective recognition when awarded by foreign higher education institutions are not mandatory in the application phase, being replaced by a declaration of honour of the candidate with the contents of academic results. The documents of academic qualification or respective recognition will be required in the contracting phase and must attest facts that occurred on a date prior to the application. In situations of divergence between the information contained in the declaration and the documentation submitted for contracting the grant, only the information contained in the latter will be consider. If the documents proving the ownership of the academic degree and diploma, or the respective recognition under the terms of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16, do not correspond to the classifications awarded in the evaluation of the academic path, which can change the candidate’s ranking, the grant won’t be contracted.

Grant duration: The research grants will last for 16 months, with a provisional start on June, 2022. The grants may be eventually renewed until the end of the project and/or applicable legislation.

Workplan and objectives to be achieved: Contribute to the sampling campaigns of zooplankton, macrozoobenthos and environmental DNA according to activity 9-2.4 of the ATLANTIDA project. Sampling processing and performing the necessary laboratorial steps for DNA metabarcoding analysis and high-throughput sequencing. Bioinformatic data treatment and processing in order to compile the final taxa lists present in each sample. Exploring data with an ecological perspective, including the analyses of the spatial-temporal variation of biodiversity. Reporting and publication of ensuing findings in scientific papers.
