The National Institute of Aquatic Resources, Section for Ocean Life at the Technical University of Denmark offers a 2-year postdoc position within the Villum Centre for Gelatinous Plankton Ecology & Evolution, starting date 15th of Sept. 2022.

Responsibilities and qualifications

This postdoc position is aimed at addressing pressing questions about the potential rise of gelatinous zooplankton organisms from a molecular perspective. In detail, it is expected that the post doc will investigate the invasion capacity of gelatinous organisms and their fate in marine food webs from a genomic perspective. We plan to further develop and apply invasion genomic tools and establish new methods for rapid assessment of population structure and connectivity of invasive gelatinous organisms. Further detection of gelatinous zooplankton in environmental samples will be a target working area. The postdoc is expected to take a leading role in the development of such methods.

We expect the post doc to be confident with the following methods:

  • De novo and whole genome re-sequencing data analyses
  • Demographic modelling such as PSMC, ABC or similar
  • Fluidigm SNP Chip design
  • Library preparation and analyses of environmental samples using NGS methods

The candidate will benefit from and be embedded into a large international network within the gelatinous zooplankton research community and be part of the Villum Centre for Gelatinous Plankton Ecology & Evolution (cgpee.dtu.dk). We collaborate with other sections in DTU Aqua working with molecular analyses and modelling.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree in biology (or equivalent).
