GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel is a foundation of public law jointly financed by the Federal Republic of Germany (90 %) and the state of Schleswig-Holstein (10 %) and is one of the internationally leading institutions in the field of marine sciences.

Within the scope of the Helmholtz programme “Strengthening transfer and innovation in the association – by building innovation platforms as sustainable and structure-building measures”, the Helmholtz Centres GEOMAR, AWI and HEREON have received a grant to build up the “SOOP” (“Shaping an Ocean Of Possibilities”) innovation platform.

SOOP aims at unlocking the power of synergies between industry, civil society, and science for innovation and transfer in technologies for the protection of Earth, climate and the environment – creating sustainable structures for transfer and innovation in ocean observing by enabling a paradigm shift towards a multi-sector integrated observing system.

Applications are invited for the position below. The position is immediately available, the contract will run until the end of the funding period on 31 December 2025. A prolongation until 30 June 2026 or a change into a permanent position may be possible after that date, subject to the availability of further funding. Innovation Manager Communications (m/f/d) (Position no. SOOP WP2/1)

Tasks:

The innovation manager for communications will actively ensure a good communication between all those involved in communication and public relations (internal and external) for the SOOP project. The tasks include establishing innovative communication concepts to make research topics more visible to the public, developing and supervising individual stakeholder engagement schemes online and in presence and offering support and coaching to scientists in initiating and implementing innovation and transfer projects, in cooperation with other actors of the Blue Economy. Concepts for specific cooperation or technology transfer projects are to be developed, taking into account suitable third-party funding lines or alternative options for funding. Further tasks include developing concepts for a website, press releases, newsletters, fact sheets, publications, policy briefs and social media. Relevant industry and stakeholder contacts are to be initiated and maintained via networking, trade fair work, events and direct approach. The progress is to be monitored and documented (including preparation of reports and presentations).

Qualifications:

  • (Scientific) University degree, preferably in communications or business sciences
  • Empathy and team spirit combined with communication skills
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and German
  • Understanding of complex technical and scientific issues

Advantageous:

  • Experience in industry relations, corporate communications and/ or innovation management
  • Experience in the fields of science, transfer, open innovation, market exploration and spin-offs
  • Experience in maintaining web contents
  • Experience in using relation management software
