Applications are invited for a position as post doc targeting research and public sector consultancy in benthic ecology and effects of fisheries. The position is affiliated with the National Institute of Aquatic Resources (DTU Aqua) Section of Coastal Ecology with work location in Kgs. Lyngby.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The work area of the position is to advance our understanding benthic ecology with focus on benthic macro invertebrates and how the benthic environment is affected by fisheries. This includes i) Improving our understanding of how fisheries impact the benthic fauna in an environment that is already impacted by other anthropogenic pressures; ii) improving our understanding of different benthic habitats in relation to faunistic diversity; and iii) improving our understanding of governing factors for benthic fauna.

You are expected to improve our capacity for conducting relevant research within the field, disseminate the results in scientific journals and public media and give advice to policy makers and other relevant authorities as well as participate in the growing interest for marine nature restoration. You are furthermore expected to be actively engaged in writing applications for both national Danish and international funding as well as overseeing projects and participate in research groups dissemination and teaching activities that include dissemination to a broader audience.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). Furthermore, we are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Experience in benthic fauna in inner Danish waters including estuaries like the Limfjorden, the Belt Sea and Kattegat.
  • Experience in working with fisheries impact and using data from Black Box, VMS and AIS.
  • Experience in working with trait-based analysis.
  • A strong innovative approach to the research field both in relation to developing the research but also in relation to the development of new solutions and new concepts.
  • The ability to contribute to the development of external cooperation and to attract funding to the research area is seen as an asset.
  • The ability to finalize a large project in the department in relation to effects of fisheries in different coastal areas.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment is 2 years. Starting date: March 30th, 2022.
