Nofima has a vacant postdoctoral position associated with the Department of Nutrition and Feed Technology which will commence in early autumn 2022, and with a duration of 24 months. The place of work is Ã…s or Bergen.

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic colleague to work in the Research Council of Norway’s Millennial Salmon project. The project follows the entire value chain in the production of sustainable salmon, from feed ingredients to the consumer. We collaborate with ingredient producers of microalgae (Corbion) and insect meal (Innovafeed), feed producers, fish farmers and fresh food suppliers to look at the marketing of salmon products, as well as Sintef Ocean to study sustainability throughout the value chain. The project addresses key issues regarding the utilisation of new feed ingredients in the production of salmon, and will be an ideal position if you are interested in industry-relevant aquaculture research.

The main task will include the following up of sea trials at Mowi’s research station at Averøya, where we will study how the addition of microalgae in feed affects the omega-3 balance in the body and the growth and health of the salmon. In addition, the most sustainable microalgae and insect feed will be tested in relation to the current commercial standard.

The position will involve a certain amount of practical work in relation to feed production, technical feed analyses, sample collection, chemical and molecular biological analyses, as well as systematisation and processing of data. You will also assist in reporting and publishing, and participate in relevant meetings and conferences.
