The Marine Animal Ecology group of Wageningen University & Research has a job opportunity for an ambitious and enthusiastic researcher with a background in biology/ecology and strong expertise in mechanistic modelling. We are looking for candidates that are eager to collaborate with colleagues that produce ecological and eco-physiological data from laboratory and model-ecosystem experiments and field observations. The goal is to create mechanistic models of the processes underlying the observations to help better understand, study and predict effects. The candidate should be able to take the lead in developing this new research area for the Marine Animal Ecology group in collaboration with the other staff members.

To be successful in this job you should be interested in understanding eco-physiological and ecological mechanisms, able to link individual-based models to higher level (population, ecosystem) models and be eager to collaborate with modelling experts from other groups within and outside Wageningen University and Research.

In this challenging position:

  • you acquire, lead and implement innovative and creative (inter-) national research projects in the Marine Animal Ecology group;
  • you collaborate with colleagues and supervise PhD students, BSc and MSc theses and you develop and teach courses;
  • you contribute to the further development of the Marine Animal Ecology group.

We ask

The ideal candidate:

  • holds a PhD in a (marine) biology/ecology related field and proven expertise in mechanistic modelling preferably at autecological level;
  • has a publication record commensurate with career stage and experience;
  • has post-doc experience, and depending on the starting level, some proven experience in obtaining research funding, supervising PhD students and/or post-doctoral researchers, and fostering national and international collaborations;
  • has didactic talent and skills in line with BSc and MSc teaching requirements;

We offer

Researcher
Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive salary for researcher (scale 11 until 13) from €3,807 to €6,420 per month based on a full working week of 38 hours in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement Wageningen University . We offer you a contract for 2 years with the intention to make it a permanent position in case of positive evaluations.

Tenure Track
When you want to enter Tenure Track the salary (depending on experience) for an assistant professors (scale 11 or 12) from €3,807 to €5,922 per month or for associate professors (scale 13 or 14) from €5,275 to €7,054 per month based on a full working week of 38 hours. In case you opt for a Tenure Track position, we initially offer a fixed-term, 7 year contract which, upon positive evaluation based on criteria elaborated in the University’s Tenure Track policy, can lead to a permanent employment contract.
