Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture, Nord University (Bodø, Norway) in collaboration with Department of Engineering Cybernetics, Norwegian University of technology and Science (Trondheim, Norway) invites applications from motivated candidates for a two-year postdoctoral position in aquaculture technology and behavioral biology. The position is available from April 1th 2022.
We are looking for motivated and creative applicants with a strong academic record and the ability to collaborate with other members of a multidisciplinary team whilst developing their own research.
The candidate will join the project CycLus, funded by Bjørøya AS through R&D licenses. This applied, commercial scale, project investigates the behavior of Atlantic salmon and Lumpfish in douculture through the use of advanced acoustic telemetry approaches. Advanced tags with onboard processing capacity is combined with 3D positioning systems, allowing for detailed and high resolution data acquisition of fish behavior. Behavioral data are interpreted in context of environmental variables and operational procedures with the ultimate goal of improving production systems for better performance and welfare. This approach requires processing and analysis of complex behavioral datasets, often in combination with other types of information available. The project’s consortium consists of academic experts within fish biology and cybernetics, in collaboration with aquaculture producers and fish health personnel. Involved institutions range from universities (Nord university and NTNU), applied R&D institutes (Nofima, Norwegian Computing Center, Norwegian Veterinary Institute), aquaculture consultants (Inaq AS, Aqua Kompetanse AS) and aquaculture companies (Bjørøya AS, Namdal Rensefisk AS).
The selected candidate will analyze, interpret and publish data from previous and ongoing experiments. The focus may be both technological and biological, but ultimately resulting in improving our understanding of how and why fish behave the way they do in these systems. The Fellow will spend appropriate time at both Bodø and Trondheim campuses, as well as in the field participating in the practical aspects of the experiments.
The position is to be located in Bodø.
