Overview

Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences is seeking to fill a 6-month postdoctoral scientist position in marine nitrogen biogeochemistry to work with Drs. Rachel Sipler and Mike Lomas. This position will focus on both lab and computer based efforts. Lab-based efforts will include extracting and analyzing stable isotope samples at Bigelow or collaborative institutions in the region as needed. The computer-based work will include interpreting existing stable isotope data sets to produce manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals. A successful applicant will have experience in stable isotope tracer methods, including interpretation of stable isotope data, and use their existing skill sets to allow them to take advantage of this opportunity to publish and diversify their research profile.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in marine science, ocean biogeochemistry or related fields
  • Experience conducting and interpreting 13C and 15N stable isotope tracer experiments including extracting, analyzing, and calculating ammonium regeneration rates and independently running isotope ratio mass spectrometers
  • Demonstrated experience in manuscript preparation using stable isotope tracer methods
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and analyze datasets using R, MATLAB, and/or similar software
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule and willingness to travel
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with significant motivation to publish in the peer-reviewed literature
  • Strong interest in team-based interdisciplinary science, with the willingness and ability to work independently when required
  • Good time management skills
