The role

As our new DASSH Data Officer you would be supporting the digitisation, standardisation and quality assurance of marine biodiversity data sets coming into the archive, as well as liaising with and advising data providers/users, partners and contractors. You will lead on DASSH social media activities showing the fun and interesting sides of data management and archiving, as well as helping with external contracts where you will be contributing to international and even global projects. As our new DASSH Data Officer you will be conscientious and have high attention to detail making sure that our data sets are of high quality, and have a passion for oceanic data and its potential in the wider world of conservation.

Essential experience/skills/qualifications:

  • Experience in Marine Biology and/or Data Science sector, or other related discipline
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft packages such as Excel and Word
  • A basic knowledge of data management
  • Demonstrable traits in attention to detail and conscientiousness

Desirable experience/skills/qualifications:

  • Relevant qualification in Marine Biology/Data Science, or other related discipline
  • Experience in the use of databases
  • Experience in using GIS packages such as ArcMap or QGIS
  • Experience in the use of social media for organization branding or similar such
    purposes

Salary and benefits

  • Salary will be based on experience
  • The MBA will contribute 10% of your basic salary into a defined benefits pension scheme.  You are required to make a 3% minimum contribution.  You can contribute over the 3% minimum and the MBA will match up to a maximum of 5%
  • Annual Leave allowance is 30 days plus bank holidays/privilege days (pro-rata if part time)
  • Potential for some flexible working

Key responsibilities and skills

  • Quality Assurance and digitisation of biodiversity data sets within the MEDIN guideline format
  • Quality assurance and creation of MEDIN Discovery metadata
  • Lead on the DASSH social media updates
  • Assist in the monitoring and email response through the metadata helpdesk and
  • DASSH enquiries email accounts
  • Assist with MBA Data Team contract deliverables
  • Participation and representation in expert groups when required
  • Verification and ad hoc species record submissions on iRecord
  • Liaise with data users/providers, partners and contractors
  • Organize incoming data within the data archive
  • Production of reports/summaries showing usage statistics

Interactions:

Interactions with MBA data providers, both internal and external.

Scope of role:

Data processing and liaison with internal and external data providers within the archive to ensure smooth delivery of DASSH.
