Post-doctoral Associate

The Old Dominion University’s Department of Ocean and Earth Sciences invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate to work with Dr. Victoria Hill.  Applicant will work on data from automated buoys deployed in the Arctic, investigating light driven processes in the upper ocean, and evaluating the use of high spatial resolution multispectral imagery for analysis of marginal ice zones. Opportunity exists to participate in other projects involving multispectral imagery for seagrass meadows, development of shipboard LIDAR, carbon cycling in coastal environments, and ecosystem modeling.

Applicant must have a Ph.D. in oceanography or a related discipline completed by the time of appointment, with strong mathematical skills.  Highest priority will be given to applicants with experience in ocean color remote sensing, marine bio-optics and GIS, as well as programming knowledge of MATLAB®, IDL®, python, R, Fortran and/or C++.  Ability to work with multiple PI’s and students in a collaborative environment is imperative.

The successful candidate will be an employee of the Old Dominion University Research Foundation, entitled to employee benefits applicable to Post-Doctoral full-time status employees including health care. The position is currently funded for one year, with possibility of annual renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and funding availability. Review of applications will begin immediately; the position is available 1 April,  2021 and will remain open until filled.  (This is not a state funded position.)
