Profound Arctic change poses great challenges to communities in the Arctic regions and beyond. Delegates to the Workshop will work to ensure the Arctic research agenda is fit to serve the needs of the future, by identifying research priorities for the next decade.

The Arctic Horizon Scan 2022 is a UN Ocean Decade endorsed activity. The Decade is an opportunity to create a new foundation across the science-policy interface to strengthen the management of our coasts and oceans for the benefit of humanity. Its motto is: “The science we need for the ocean we want.” The Arctic Ocean is central to the Arctic region and plays a vital role in livelihoods, ecosystems and climate.

The results of the Arctic Horizon Scan 2022 will contribute towards the ongoing efforts of the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) to identify key scientific questions and issues through the International Conference on Arctic Research Planning (ICARP) initiative. ICARP IV will be held in Boulder, CO (USA) in 2025.
