The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is organizing the 8th WMO Workshop on the Impact of Various Observing Systems on Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) and Earth System Prediction (ESP), from 27 to 30 May 2024. The workshop will be hosted by the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) in Sweden, at the SMHI main office in Norrköping

The workshop, held every 4 years, has been the WMO focal point for providing scientific evidence on the impacts of surface and space-based observing systems, on different applications, including NWP and Earth System Applications such as climate. The findings of the workshop are part of the process to evaluate the impacts (or potential impacts) of observing systems, which translates into increased attention. Over the years, this workshop has increasingly touched the oceans.
