SEArica Vice-Chair for the Danube and the Black Sea, Ms Carmen Avram and Ms Caroline Nagtegaal, SEArica member warmly invite you to the SEArica Conference Inland Waterways Transport in the Danube: taking stock of the NAIADES III Strategy, taking place online on Tuesday 12 July 2022 from 13:00 to 14:00 (Brussels time).

The event is organised in the framework of the Seas, Rivers, Islands and Coastal Areas (SEArica) Intergroup of the European Parliament, together with the support of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions.

The European Strategy for Smart and Sustainable Mobility (SSMS) and the NAIADES III programme, as part of the EU Green Deal, both seek to increase the share of Inland Waterways Transport (IWT) by 25% by 2030 and by 50% by 2050. At the same time, one of the main challenges for the IWT sector is to make the necessary energy transition and to look for alternative energy sources and propulsions.

One year after the publication of the Inland Waterways Transport Strategy of the European Commission NAIADES III, the SEArica intergroup has the pleasure to organise an online meeting focused on the Danube River. The meeting will bring together regional stakeholders from the private and institutional sector to take stock of the implementation of the NAIADES III Strategy. What has been achieved so far? What are the remaining and future challenges?

Please find attached the draft Agenda.

Co-hosted by MEP Carmen Avram, SEArica Vice-Chair for the Danube and the Black Sea and MEP Caroline Nagtegaal, SEArica member and EP Rapporteur of the INI Towards Future-proof Inland Waterway Transport (IWT) in Europe, with the participation of prominent speakers including Ms Magda Kopczynska, Director Waterborne, DG MOVE and stakeholders such as Pro Danube International.
