EurOcean – the European Centre for Information on Marine Sciences and Technology is an independent, scientific, non-governmental organisation, based in Lisbon.

It provides comprehensive databases of information on topics related to marine science and technology in Europe with priority given to three main domains: Marine Knowledge Management, Marine Research Infrastructures and Ocean Public Outreach and Awareness activities.

EurOcean is looking for a science officer to contribute primarily to its activities in marine knowledge management, contributing to the development, population, cleaning of records, and collection of missing information for the Marine Knowledge Gate InfoBase and supporting the organisation´s tasks within the H2020 COLUMBUS project, in particular those related to the management of knowledge outputs, dissemination of the project result, and legacy issues.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in marine sciences or a related discipline and a minimum of three years´ experience working in marine research support activities. They should have experience working on European Commission funded marine projects and be familiar with issues related to the European Integrated Marine Policy, including Blue Growth.

Knowledge of national science funding systems and experience in working with relational databases and the development and dissemination of content through web sites are desirable. Fluency in spoken and written English is a prerequisite.

Personal characteristics required include planning and organisational skills, attention to detail, the ability to carry out repetitive tasks, work independently and on one´s own initiative and at times under pressure and to strict deadlines.

This application is open to European Union citizens as well as those from outside the European Union.
This is a fulltime position and the successful candidate will be awarded a service contract with a duration of 6 months (possibly extended up to 9 months), starting preferably in April 2017. Monthly gross salary will be 2,050€ (including income tax and VAT) commensurate with experience.
